Jones named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Lolo Jones has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after placing second in the women's 60m hurdles Sunday at the BW Bank Meeting in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The 2007 U.S. Indoor champion, Jones recorded a personal best time of 7.77 seconds in finishing second to Sweden's Susanna Kallur, who set a world record in winning the race in 7.68. Jones' time is the third-fastest performance ever by an American. Only all-time great Gail Devers has cleared the 60m hurdles faster.

Other notable performances include Rubin Williams' world-leading 20.66 in the men's 200m at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York, and 2007 U.S. Indoor champion Greg Nixon's world-leading 45.81 in the men's 400m (oversize track) at the Texas Tech Invitational.

Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2008 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 8, Cheryl Foody; January 16, Nick Vena; January 22, Chanelle Price; January 29, Antwon Hicks; February 5, Adam Nelson; February 12, Lolo Jones.
