Jeon Ji Hee the Sensational Women’s Singles Winner in Morocco

Jeon Ji Hee the Sensational Women’s Singles Winner in Morocco

The eighth seed, competing in only the fourth ITTF Pro Tour tournament of her career, Jeon Ji Hee won the Women's Singles title in Morocco.

At the final hurdle the 18 year old beat second seed, Japan's 26 year old Sayaka Hirano to clinch her second crown of the tournament and her third in eight days.

The previous week in Japan she won the Under 21 Women's Singles event; the previous day in Rabat she had repeated that success.

In Morocco, Jeon Ji Hee, upset the seeding to recover from the precipice of defeat in the sixth game, to record a seven games win.

She succeeded 11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 14-12, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4.

It has been a quite sensational rise for a player who made her debut on the ITTF Pro Tour at the Spanish Open in early April and entered the World Rankings following that event on the listings produced for May prior to the GAC GROUP 2011 World Table Tennis Championships.

She entered at no.72 but following a first round defeat at the hands of Singapore's Sun Beibei at the Volkswagen China Open in Shenzhen, she fell ten places to no.82 for the rankings produced earlier this month.

Furthermore, she became the first Korean player to win an ITTF Pro Tour Women's Singles title for over two years.

The last previous occasion was on Sunday 14th June 2009, when Park Mi Young won the Women's Singles title at the Japan Open in Wakamiya.

Women's Doubles

Singapore's Sun Beibei and Yu Mengyu, the top seeds, justified their exalted position the very top of the draw by securing the Women's Doubles title.

In a nail biting final that went the full seven games distance they beat the second seeded Japanese pairing of Sayaka Hirano and Kasumi Ishikawa at the final hurdle.

The Singaporeans, retaining their composure and concentration at the vital times, eventually secured victory by the margin of 11-6, 11-13, 11-6, 11-13, 15-13, 9-11, 12-10.
