MOSCOW – Jennifer Abel of Montreal won her semifinal heat to advance to the final on women’s 10-metre tower on Thursday to open the third stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.
Abel, 16, posted the fourth best score overall in the semis after struggling to an eighth place finish in the preliminaries.
‘’I was pretty mad after the prelims,’’ said Abel, an impressive 11th on three-metre earlier this year at the diving World Cup which earned a second Olympic spot for Canada in the event. ‘’That really fired me up for the semis and I didn’t miss a dive.’’
Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal was second in the preliminaries but fourth in her semi heat and was eliminated. The top-three from each semi advanced to Saturday’s final.
