| The Italian Women, meanwhile, have dropped from second to fourth position in the rankings. In the women’s rankings, USA moved up to second place from third, reflecting their silver-medal performance in Beijing, while Cuba moved from fourth to third. The Turkish Women jumped from 16th 11th, Germany’s Women improved from 15th to 12th, while the Netherlands dropped from 13th to 15th. The new rankings, as of January 15th, 2009, reflect a reduction in the weighting of results earned at the 2006 FIVB World Championships, 2007 FIVB World Cup and 2007 Continental Championships, with more recent performances at the 2008 FIVB World League, World Grand Prix and Beijing Olympic Games having a greater influence on the standings as a consequence.
