Ireland - National success inspires ingle

The Irish senior women's side -- boasting a number of players plying their trade in the domestic league -- managed to claim three excellent wins against Slovenia, Switzerland and Iceland in their Division B campaign.

DCU Mercy head coach Mark Ingle, who acted as the Irish assistant coach, believes the positivity gained from the European series can only help the league this season.

"The way Ireland played in their internationals has created a huge buzz ahead of the new season," he said.

"There was a great spread of Super League players in the squad and they produced excellent displays against some really talented European sides."

Ingle's charges, who have announced a bumper three-year sponsorship deal with the Lemongrass restaurant group, open their account at home to DART Killester on Sunday. The vastly-experienced coach believes it will take something special to snatch the title from the clutches of Team Montenotte Hotel, Cork.

"We are looking forward to a positive season," added Ingle.

"I believe we have strengthened our squad from last season but I still think Montenotte will be favourites and will be the team to beat."

Montenotte travel to the capital on Saturday night to face Tolka Rovers, while league newcomers Leisure World Churchfield Iona entertain UL Aughinish in the league's opening game in Neptune Stadium.

In their other clash of the weekend, Dublin outfit Meteors travel to Waterford to face last season's National Cup runners-up Wildcats.
