IPC Worlds-Forest Crowned World Champion In The Super Combined

KANGWON LAND – Viviane Forest (Edmonton, AB), along with guide Lindsay Debou (Whistler, BC) won the IPC World Championships Super Combined today in Kangwon Land, KOR.

Forest, who competes in the ladies visually impaired category, earned her first career win for the World Championships and her third medal as she finished second in the slalom and giant slalom earlier this week. This is a remarkable feat considering Debou started guiding Forest at the beginning of this event, and these are both their first World Championships.

“I am really proud of our performance today, we had two great runs. I was beginning to doubt myself yesterday because I though I wouldn’t be able to win at these IPC World Championships but I did a lot of visualization and I concentrated a lot on my skiing,” said Forest.

“We were very aggressive in our two runs and it gave the results we had today. The distance was good and we were very concentrated on what we had to do. The mental preparation was better today then the other days and that made a big difference in our performance for the super combined,” added Forest.  

In the ladies standing category Lauren Woolstencroft (North Vancouver, BC) finished first in the super G run and missed a gate in the slalom course which placed her fifth after the two races combined.  Karolina Wisniewska (Vancouver, BC/ Calgary, AB) and Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC) finished eighth and tenth respectively.

Kimberly Joines (Rossland, BC) who competes in the ladies category finished sixth after her two runs. In the men’s standing category Morgan Perrin (Vancouver, BC) finished 20^th.  

Chris Williamson (Markham, ON) along with guide Nick Brush (Panorama, BC) were among those who did not finish the super G run. Josh Dueck (Vernon, BC) and Matt Hallat (Coquitlam, BC) did not finish the slalom run.

Today’s super combined consisted of a run of super G and a run of slalom. Both races together made the results for the super combined.

The IPC World Championships will continue tomorrow in Kangwon Land, KOR with the super G event.
