Bonn, Germany - The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Co-ordination Commission for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010 paid its seventh visit to Vancouver, Canada, from 21-23 October.
During the three days of positive meetings, the Commission including International Paralympic Committee (IPC) representative Rita van Driel received updates from the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee (VANOC) about its progress in a number of areas such as sport, spectator experience and media services. Furthermore, the Commission also paid a short trip to Whistler, where several events will take place during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
During the Paralympic working groups, VANOC and the IPC discussed the general progress on the Paralympics over the last six months, venues accessibility issues, accommodation, sporting event plans, as well as the achievements of the Paralympic marketing programme.
Said Ms. Van Driel: “We are very pleased with the progress of VANOC’s preparations for the Paralympic Winter Games. Most especially, the advancements in the area of television are very exciting and necessary. As we have seen in Beijing, there is an increasing appetite by the media to cover the Paralympic Games and 2010 will be no exception. We are also pleased with the interest showed by international and domestic companies in supporting the Paralympic Winter Games and to associate with the Paralympic brand.”
The IOC Co-ordination Commission reviews the progress of the Organizing Committees on a regular basis and additionally includes a Paralympic working group and Paralympic topics.
