Ioannina Lake Run: A powerful and beautiful lakeside Running Experience
Ioannina Lake Run 2021, which took place 18-19 September, for the 15th annual time, certified its position as one of the leading road races in Greece, with potentials to lead to further sports tourism development.
The 30km route around Lake Pamvotis has, once more, attracted runners from every corner of the country and abroad, even though this year, due to the health protocols applied for protection against covid-19, a lot of runners were excluded and didn’t have the chance to run the most beautiful route in Greece.
The beauty of the landscape, the almost flat terrain of 30 km, the date of the race just before the Athens Classic Marathon, the enthusiastic volunteers, the simultaneous racing and cultural events, the collectible medals, the rich catering and the generous amenities to every participant, combined with the strict appliance of the health protocols, led to a successful event.
Konstantinos Stamoulis was the winner of the Ioannina Lake Run 30 km for the third consecutive year and run the distance in the time of 1:41.08. Panagiotis Bourikas was second winner with a time of 1:43.19 and former marathon champion Christoforos Merousis was third with a time of 1:44.55.
In the women's category, Gloria Privileggio crossed the finishing line first in the time of 1:56.51, winning the Ioannina Lake Run for the second time in an equal number of participations. Vasiliki Konstantopoulou was second with a time of 1:59.35 and Christina Katzouraki third with a time of 2:00.30.
On the first day of the event, 5 km and 10 km road races took place, in the presence of the American ultra marathon runner with Greek origin Dean Karnazes. As part of the preparation for an upcoming iFIT video workout series, the famous super athlete visited Ioannina and run the 10 km race, accompanied by a multi-membered support team and cinematographers.
Nikos Stamoulis with a time of 30.43 and Eleni Nikolopoulou with 39.25 were the winners of the 10 km race, while Nestoras Kolios and Eugenia Papadimatou won the 5 km race.
Ioannina Lake Run 2021 was organized by Limni and A.C. Poseidon Ioannina, in collaboration with the Region of Epirus and the Municipality of Ioannina and was under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism. Vikos SA was the grant sponsor of the event and bwin was the official sponsor.
