Olton & WW lead the charge behind Reading thanks to three Emma McCabe goals securing a 3-1 victory over local rivals Sutton Coldfield on Saturday. Sutton could be forgiven for thinking they had turned the corner following a 4-2 win over Slough last week, but Olton brought them back down to Earth with a bump. Cannock’s fifth straight defeat came at the hands of University of Birmingham who moved into third as a result. Ashlie Caddick’s first goal was sandwiched between Liz George’s brace, in the first half, for University of Birmingham before Caddick’s second put the game beyond doubt despite Jess Wood’s 57th minute strike for Cannock. Leicester was held to a 1-1 draw away at Slough after Natalie Bell’s goal cancelled out Katie Long’s 8th minute opener. Euro Canterbury moved up into fourth after defeating Clifton 2-1. Georgina Twigg put Clifton into the lead midway through the first half before Charlotte Craddock equalised against her former club four minutes before half time. Lucy Hyams earned the victory for EuroCanterbury, at Polo Farm, by striking a goal for which Clifton had no answer in the 60th minute.
Top faced bottom in Investec Conference East as Surbiton travelled South East to bottom side Horsham. Surbiton returned to London with all three points after Chloe Strong and Vicky Bryant struck braces followed by Abi Robinson’s 69th minute finish that resulted in a 5-0 triumph. St. Albans remain level on points with Surbiton thanks to a 2-1 win over second bottom Chelmsford in which Sarah Cullum opened the scoring and Kerri Lendon netted the 38th minute decider. Ipswich fell three points behind Surbiton, and St. Albans, after suffering a 2-1 home defeat against last season’s champions Sevenoaks. For Sevenoaks it was their second win of the season. Harleston Magpies were victorious over Old Loughtonians, 1-0, thanks to a goal from Anouska Hipperson; they move above their defeated opponents in the table as a result. Oxford Hawks’ fourth win of the season condemned Maidstone to their second defeat after a 5-1 rout in which Beth Warne scored twice for Hawks.
Beeston fell to third in Investec Conference North after a 4-3 defeat by Wakefield Bradford; Gwen Smith and Cat Horn scored in the final three minutes for Wakefield to overturn a goal deficit to move into second. Durham University tops the Conference thanks to a superior goal difference over Wakefield Bradford after they took advantage of Beeston’s loss. Durham beat Springfields 5-3 with Harriet Moore scoring twice. Doncaster moved up into fourth after a 5-0 victory over bottom side Northampton Saints whose second stint in the EHL has so far failed to conjure a point; Lisa Garbutt and Charlotte Tomlin scored braces for Doncaster. Loughborough Students lost ground on the leaders after losing 3-1 away at Brooklands Poynton in which Helen Armishaw’s two penalty strokes overturned Kate Hewitt’s opener. Whitley Bay & Tynemouth’s second win of the season came at Liverpool Sefton following a 3-0 win in which first half goals were scored by Emma & Gabrielle Foster.
Buckingham’s 100% win record was maintained in Investec Conference West following a 4-0 success over bottom side Staines. Fiona Farley scored twice in the first half to set Buckingham on their way to the win to open up a four point gap in the table over Isca University. Gloucester City held Isca to a 0-0 draw, Gloucester’s third of the season, whilst Exe and Trojans shared the same score line. Firebrands’ first win of the season came at Team Bath Buccaneers thanks to four second half goals from Holly Savage, Sophie Fynn and Kathryn Bache(2) that overturned a goal deficit into a 4-1 lead before Zoe Shipperley stole a goal back for Buccs. Swansea’s third win moves the Welsh side into third after Bridget Radice and Carys Hopkin’s goals earned a 2-0 victory over Barnes Hounslow Ealing. Barnes HE drop to fourth in the table as a result.
