Heptathlete Jessica Ennis
So what does it feel like to be a runner up in Sportswoman of the year 2009?
Brilliant, its such an honour to even be nominated. It has been such a great year; having won the World Championships and a runner up for Sportsman of the Year is a bonus!
What makes Sportswoman of the Year so important?
It recognizes sportswomen in the UK and shows people how hard we do work. It’s also important to recognize the coaches and people that work within the community.
Who inspires you in terms of sport?
Lots of athletes, my coach inspires me. People like Denise Lewis is definitely a woman I look up too, I can relate to her so much.
You had some injuries at key moments in your career. What advice would you give to young athletes who are suffering from a lot of injuries and to continue to motivate them?
There’s always a risk with injury when you train in sport. It was a shock to my system when I was injured before Beijing. I got through it by having such a great network of people around me. I had so much support from my coach and family.
What are your plans and expectations for the future?
Definitely staying injury free, getting better times and just hopefully winning some more major championships.
