Beth Tweddle
At only 23, what is it like to be so successful at a young age?
Great, I mean I started Gymnastics because I was to hyperactive. I don’t remember the transition though. I just enjoy it so much that I don’t really think about what I’ve won. When I’m retired maybe then I can look back at my medals.
Whats your average training regime?
I have Sundays off and train 6 days a week for 30 hours.
You have had injuries in the past, how did you pull yourself back up?
I am very determined. In 1998 people where telling me to just give up gymnastics because id already won the National Championship. But I’m a perfectionist and I love gymnastics
In your opinion is there enough funding in British Gymnastics and could there be more?
There is always a need for more funding. For the past ten years the Lottery has supported me, meaning I didn’t need to work to support my training. But yes there can never be enough funding.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to become a successful sports woman?
Never give up. A lot of people along the way have told me to just pack it in. But I couldn’t, I love it too much.
