Brazil women's coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes has put his charges to work ahead of the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup which starts on November 10 | Lausanne, Switzerland, November 4, 2009 - Despite the successful defence of the World Grand Prix title in August, the coach of the Brazilian women's Volleyball team, Jose Roberto Guimaraes, has warned that his team needs more intensive training in order to give it its best chance of retaining its trophy ahead of the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup which starts on November 10 in Tokyo, Japan.
Thus, the Olympic champions and world number one has undergone an high octane training session this past week in Aryzão, the Centre for Development of Volleyball in Rio de Janiero with all eyes on the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup which runs from November 10-15.
"Our training has been very much based on the pass and the athletes are progressing,” Ze Roberto said. “Movement is a crucial part of the game. The reception offers some variations but we worked constantly on our defensive system to balance the lock-defence. The strength of our team is the counter-attack. To do so, all these aspects of our game need to work."
After losing key player Fabiana with tendinitis in her right shoulder, two other “injury” concerns still remain with Adenízia, who has chicken pox, and Carol Gattaz with a left foot injury. José Roberto, however, ensures that the two will be in Japan.
"Adenízia was home last week and is already improving, of course she will travel with us. Carol is training regularly but is unable to jump so much. I believe, though, that want be troubled come the start of this very important tournament," said the coach. |
