Netball's top-ranked teams are backing up from big opening wins and India will make their Commonwealth Games Netball debut on the second day of competition at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex today.
In the first match of the day, at 09:30, South Africa will open its Games campaign against an English outfit pumped up by an 81-20 first-day victory over an aggressive and athletic Barbados. South Africa has an advantage, but should be wary of an England side that made 81 of 99 shots.
Jamaica then takes on Malawi in the first of the day's Pool A matches, and the style of both teams flags this clash as a not-to-be-missed battle. Ranked fourth and fifth respectively, this could be closer than expected as Jamaica may struggle to back up less than 24 hours after their 75-36 victory in a physical tussle against Trinidad and Tobago. Goal shooter Romelda Aiken will again be Jamaica's go-to girl after scoring 37 goals from 43 shots.
New Zealand will hope to repeat its 102-21 thumping of Papua New Guinea when it plays the Cook Islands at 15:00. Expect another huge margin in the Kiwis' favour as they continue their quest for consecutive Games golds. Captain Casey Williams (NZL) will be looking to add to her five first-game intercepts, while teammate Irene Van Dyk should again be solid under the post.
