MIES (2015 FIBA U19 World Championship/2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - FIBA on Thursday night hosted the Official Draw Ceremony for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships and the special event was a resounding success.
It marked the first time that draw procedures for FIBA events were staged at the world governing body of basketball's state-of-the-art headquarters situated on the shores of Lake Geneva.
The memorable occasion was witnessed by a large turnout consisting of esteemed Ambassadors and Consuls in Switzerland of some of the countries participating in the two tournaments; the State representatives for the cantons of Vaud and of Geneva; leaders of national federations and representatives of the participating teams.
Also in attendance were former players who competed in past editions of the FIBA U19 World Championships, including Arvydas Sabonis, Ilona Korstin and Giorgios Kalaitzis.
They were joined by FIBA Secretary General Emeritus, Mr Borislav Stankovic; FIBA President, Mr Horacio Muratore; FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member, Mr Patrick Baumann; Former FIBA President and current International Basketball Federation (IBF), Mr Yvan Mainini; all the members of FIBA's Executive Committee; FIBA officials.
The 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship will take place in Heraklion (Crete), Greece from 27 June to 5 July, with the 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship following shortly thereafter, in Chekhov (Moscow Region), Russia from 18-26 July.
