The third time in the history of the pentathlon sport – after 2000 and 2003 – the Hungarian women relay team won the gold medal. Today Leila Gyenesei, Sarolta Kovács and Adrienn Tóth were the members of the relay team.

The first pieces of news was that the mobile pool was full of water. Gábor Pécsi explained that it is the normal situation, because before the world championships it worked perfectly during 6 days. The source of the problem will be unknown forever, because they didn’t examined what could cause it. But Gábor Pécsi added that the cooperation in solving the problem was predictable.

According to the choice of Antal Kulcsár, a really young Hungarian relay team competed on Monday. Sarolta Kovács (17-year-old), Leila Gyenesei (22) – who was 6th in the individual competition and has Olympic qualification -, and Adrienn Tóth (17) were the members of the home relay team. Exaggeratedly we can say that Kovács is an accomplished relay member: she was also member last year, when the relay team became 3rd in Riga in the European championships and 4th in Berlin in the world championships. Adrienn Tóth also performed at the world championships in the relay.

The home girls didn’t star during the first event: they collected 263 target-points, and they got 1060 points for this result. At the end of the first event they were 7th out of the 13 teams. The British girls lead the scoreboard at that time with 270 target-points and 1144 points.
In the fencing event, only the Polish team reached the dreamy 1000 points borderline (76 wins/1000 points). All the Hungarian girls won 20 times, so they had 60 wins, which resulted in 808 points. With this performance they became 4th in the second event. After two events, the Polish relay team lead with 1952 points, the second was the team of Great Britain with 1928 points, and the home girls were in the bronze medal position with 1868 points.

In the third event, the Hungarian relay team was amazing. Their 2:59.51 minutes result (1368 points) was the best out of the 13 teams, so it meant a temporary first position for them after three events. They total score was 3236 points. In the riding event they only made one fault, so they could keep their first place.

The home favorites started the last event – the 3x1500 metres running – with an 18-seconds advantage before the British relay team. After another 19 seconds, the Polish team followed the first two teams.

They could keep some of the advantage, so they kept the gold medal at home. The British triplet won the silver, why the team of Poland picked the bronze.

The MVM Modern Pentathlon World Championships continues tomorrow 07:30 am with the men relay. The members of the Hungarian team: Ádám Marosi, Róbert Kasza, Péter Tibolya.
