Honiton Acro Gym Club has two new south west champions

Kaisha, Alice, Adam and Megan Honiton Acro Gym Club

Two partnerships from Honiton Gym Club have secured their place at the acrobatic gymnastics national development plan finals, after taking gold medals at the regional prelims in Taunton.

Kaisha Dessalines-Wright (14) and Alice Hewstone (11) took the grade 3 women's pair title and Adam Fullick (14) and Megan Jones (9) took the grade 2 mixed pair title.

James Reddy, high performance coach, said: "It was a great start to the 2012 season, and both partnerships will now be working hard to ensure they have a good chance at the national finals in Stoke on Trent in May.  Kaisha and Alice have improved tremendously over the past year and they put in consistent performances over both routines finishing a full mark ahead of the second placed pair.  Adam and Megan were on top form too, and out of more than 130 partnerships competing on the day they scored the third highest technical mark."

Both partnerships train a minimum of ten hours each week at Honiton Sports Centre.

Adding to the club's success, silver medals were won by grade 1 women's pair Francesca Cade and Emily Pack, who have qualified for the inter-regional finals in Southampton in April.  Bronze medals were taken by grade 2 women's trio Michaela Jones, Lauren Davey and Arabella Crandon-Griffiths.

A host of other gymnast also competed excellently for the club with many narrowly missing out on the medals.

James added: "The club has grow so much in the past couple of years and we now have 140 members, so we have a huge number of gymnasts eligible to compete.  It's great to give so many children the opportunity to perform and display their skills, but it's equally satisfying to bring home a handful of medals."

Honiton Gym Club now runs a much wider range of sessions for younger children and is particularly looking for active four to six-year olds to join its Monday evening sessions (5-6.30pm).  For more information about this  and other sessions for all levels, visit www.honitongymclub.org, email [email protected], or call Helen Nayler on 07825 181693.
