Women’s Tennis pro Heather Watson today launched the 2012 AEGON Classic, which will take place from 11-17th June at Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.
This year will also see the introduction of Ladies Day, in association with Harvey Nichols, Birmingham. Ladies Day will be held on Thursday 14th of June and one lucky lady will win a bespoke ring designed exclusively by Vault 88. Heather was on hand to model the beautiful and unique ring pictured below.
Heather competed at the tournament for the first time in 2011 and narrowly missed out on the quarter finals after losing to China’s Shuai Peng. But far from deterred, Heather is looking forward to her return. She said: “I’m really excited to be back playing in Birmingham this year. The tournament has such a friendly feel to it and it was great to get some grass-court practice in before Wimbledon.”
She also showed her excitement at the prospect of Ladies Day, she continued: “I love the idea of having a Ladies Day at the event. It will be fun to see everyone coming to watch the tennis dressed up and I think it will create a really good atmosphere.”
The 19 year old was also on hand to practice with youngsters from the Edgbaston Club’s junior and community programme as well as filling them in on her winning ways.
This year there will also be free entry to Kid’s Day on Sunday 10th June and there will be a Student’s Day on Monday 11th June.
