Hannah Burke wins USA honours

Hertfordshire’s Hannah Burke has completed her first year at Baylor University in Texas with a string of golfing honours.

The 19-year-old from Welwyn Garden City was voted co-newcomer of the year for the Big 12 conference, of which her university is a member.

She was also picked for the all-conference team, which is selected from the top performers from the 12 colleges.

Hannah, whose home club is Mid-Herts, also broke two women’s records at Baylor. She set the lowest scoring average for a freshman and recorded the best finish (8th) by a freshman in a Big 12 tournament.

“I am delighted with what I have achieved and hope to carry on this way,” said Hannah who has just returned home for the summer break. She’s planning a busy playing schedule and also hopes to catch up with friends and her coach before returning to the US in August.
