Lyn Gunson, head of England Netball’s 21 and Under programme and a former national open squad coach, has been honoured with Life Membership of England Netball in recognition of her work in creating and shaping the player development pathways, and the impact she has had on the development of some many of the current crop of England players and aspiring coaches.
Gunson, who coached England’s Open squad at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, has been England’s 21 and under head coach since 2006 as well as directing the South West’s centre of excellence at the University of Bath, has returned to her native New Zealand.
“Lyn’s leaves a legacy for England Netball that is immense,” says Nigel Holl, Director of Netball, “and she will be sorely missed. Honouring Lyn by making her a life member of England Netball is an appropriate step to recognise her influence and input. I am sure that she will be keeping a close eye on future progress of the athletes and coaches she has supported so closely from New Zealand. We wish her well.”
Gunson was presented with her award at England Netball’s offices in Hitchin by Vice President Barbara Bishop, in front of a selected audience before travelling back to the Southern Hemisphere
