GB Women today overcame reigning Olympic and European Champions 4-1 to win the 2008 Setanta Trophy final at the University College Dublin. Sarah Thomas and Charlotte Craddock were on target in the first half with Crista Cullen and Rachel Walker scoring after the break. Germany had seven penalty corners to GB’s four, but both sides only managed to make one of their set pieces count.
Great Britain went ahead in the 7th minute after some nice trickery from Walker down the left which allowed her to pass to Sarah Thomas at the far post to slot past Yvonne Frank from close range.
In the 19th minute, some nice passing play between Danson, Walker and Panter resulted in a shot which went just over the bar and a minute later, GB won their first penalty corner. Injected by Panter, Rogers stopped the ball at the top of the circle to allow Mel Clewlow to shoot at goal, but the Canterbury defender’s shot was saved by Frank.
