The Australian Netball Diamonds will be driving to training in style following the generosity of major sponsor, GM Holden with each player to receive a brand new Holden Astra to drive for one year.
Nine of the 13 inaugural Diamonds players are currently driving Holden Astra’s courtesy of GM Holden’s recognition of Australia winning the 2007 World Netball Championship.
But for the new team members –Kimberlee Green, Kate Beveridge, Bec Bulley and Laura Geitz – this week’s announcement by GM Holden will also make a huge difference to their daily lives.
For 23-year-old Kate Beveridge, who drives her nanna’s car around Adelaide, a new Astra is a timely gift.
“I drive an old hand-me-down 1999 sedan that really is the world’s worst car,” she said. “The generosity of Holden is amazing and it’s an exceptional gesture on their behalf. It will make such a difference to us all.”
For Sydney-based Kimberlee Green, the prospect of driving a new Astra sporting the dynamic Australian Netball Diamonds logo is very exciting.
“I can’t wait to see people’s faces when we drive past,” the 22-year-old midcourter said. “I live 45 minutes from our training venue so driving a brand new car instead of my old one, which shook the whole way, will be just great.”
GM Holden’s Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alan Batey said his company was proud to support the Australian Netball Diamonds for a fifth consecutive year.
“In addition to sponsoring the Holden Netball Test Series and ANZ Championship, we wanted to support the players on an individual level in a way that would make a real difference to their everyday lives,” he said.
The 2008 Holden Netball Test Series features the top three nations in the world - Australia, New Zealand and England - in action across four Australian cities from October 4 to November 2.
