Glory for Storey in Manchester

DOUBLE Paralympic gold-medallist Sarah Storey (pictured) today beat a field of able-bodied competitors to win the pursuit title at the National Track Championships in Manchester.

The 31-year-old from Manchester caught opponent Emma Trott before the end of the 3000m event.

Neither Rebecca Romero nor Wendy Houvenaghel, who won gold and silver in the pursuit in Beijing, were competing but that did not lessen the significance of  Storey becoming the first disabled woman to win a national able-bodied individual crown at the National Championships in Britain.

She said: "The old legs were ready for a rest and I didn't know how it work out there."
