5 Test Wheelchair Basketball Series Australia v Germany, Melbourne
Australia’s Senior Womens Wheelchair Basketball team (Gliders ) had hardly been home long after their bronze playoff win against the developing GB side at the BT Paralympics, Manchester (and just enough time for some of their bikes and game chairs to be re-united with them following a mess up at Manchester airport !) when they moved onto the next phase of preparation for the World Cup at Birmingham’s NEC , next month, hosting a series of five friendlies with the German’s over the week 7th-11th June in Melbourne.
The German’s hadn’t made the Manchester event but will be in Birmingham so an interesting prospect to see how the two teams would shape up going head to head. In the end it was a close run thing with score lines often flattering the German’s but despite going into the last game 3-1 down there was no sense that it was going to be a rolling stroll in the park for the visitors. And to confirm that honours in the final game, went to the Gliders Friday evening , topping Germany 57-48 in the Dandedong Basketball stadium,
