GB Row – an ultra extreme, 2,000 mile, NON STOP, unassisted!!
Starting on June 1, 2011, as many as 20 boats will take part in GB Row – an ultra extreme, 2,000 mile, NON STOP, unassisted rowing race around the British mainland – for a prize fund totalling more than £55,000 and a place in the record books!
Setting off from London's Tower Bridge a £30,000 bounty is waiting for the crew that can beat the current world record of 26 days 21 hours and 14 minutes, set in 2005 by a crew of four men.
In 2010 a team of four women, skippered by Belinda Kirk, set a Guinness World Record by becoming the first females in history to complete the 2,000-mile journey in 51 days 16 hours 42 minutes. They were racing against a team of men who were forced to give up at Lands End.
Crews will battle against treacherous tides, horrendous winds and navigate some of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
