2006 USA Outdoor champion Lisa Galaviz set a new American record in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday at the KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
Galaviz finished fourth in 9 minutes 28.75 seconds to better the previous American record of 9:29.32 set by Brianna Shook, also at Heusden-Zolder, on July 31, 2004. Galaviz, who placed fourth at the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Championships, posted her previous personal best time of 9:40.58 in 2005.
