Fudoh carded five birdies – including three in a row on holes nine through 11 – against two bogeys for a 34-35=69 (-3) and 13-under-par 203 (66-68-69). Fudoh's best finish in a LPGA event was third place and a tie for third at the 2000 and 2005 Mizuno Classic events in Japan. Ranked 22nd on the Rolex Rankings, a win by Fudoh would make her just the second Japanese professional golfer to win a LPGA major championship as Chako Higuchi first won the 1977 LPGA Championship.
