Fremantle Marlins team members Sharan Wheelock, Gemma Beadsworth and Katie Finucane, along with former junior national squad member Amity Campbell, competed as a team of four in the iconic 20km swim.
Taking part in the Corporate Division, they were out to upset the Bondi Rescue team, which featured Bondi lifesavers Ryan 'Whippet' Clarke, Dean 'Deano' Gladstone, Bruce 'Hoppo' Hopkins and Bondi vet Chris Brown.
The Bondi team won the Corporate Division in last year's race.
There had been plenty of trash talk between the two teams in the lead up to the event, with Finucane questioning whether the lifeguards would be able to perform without the cameras on them.
The two teams were neck and neck the entire way, with 'Deano' hanging on to a 5m lead over Wheelock after the first kilometer.
The lead changed several times up until the 15 km mark, before the water polo girls slowly started to edge ahead.
A final 1km sprint by Wheelock ensured the girls were not to be denied, with the team finishing in 5hrs 8 mins, four minutes ahead of their celebrated rivals.
