SVP voir le communiqué des cinq athlètes de l'équipe nationale qui se retirent officiellement
OTTAWA - Synchro Canada will have a new look on the international stage this season as five of its national team athletes officially retire from competition.
After 10 years on the national team captain Marie-Pierre Gagné has decided to focus on her academic pursuits. Gagné competed in two Olympic Games, three World Championships and two Pan American Games. Her leadership and experience was a wonderful asset over the years.
Fellow veteran Jessika Dubuc will also be missed. Her enthusiasm and sense of humour were much appreciated during her nine-year tenure on the national team.
Also retiring are 2008 Olympic team members Jennifer Song and Dominika Kopcik, as well as National B Team member Megan Poss, a finalist for the 2008 Olympic team.
Both Poss and Song represented Canada for seven years, while Kopcik spent five years on the national team.
Song considers the 2008 Olympic Games and 2005 World Championships, held in Montreal, QC, the highlights of her career. Poss and Kopcik, who were also on the 2005 squad, admit the experience of competing in front of a hometown crowd was unforgettable.
“The contributions made by these athletes to the National Team program has been exceptional,” said Catherine Gosselin-Despres, Synchro Canada Chief Operating Officer. “Hopefully we will be able to keep these individuals involved in the organization and use their personal experiences to benefit our young swimmers.”
Synchro Canada wishes all five individuals the best of luck in their future endeavors and thanks them for their commitment and professionalism over the years.
