Suva, Fiji, February 26, 2010 – Tomasi Katonivualiku, the Fijian Beach Volleyball Administrator, has confirmed that the national under-19 squad will be taking part in the SWATCH FIVB 2010 Youth World Championships due to be held later this year from July 27 to August 1.

Katonivualiku said that the squad will be selected later this year and will travel to the competition due to be held in Porto, Portugal.

“We'll be preparing for this tour later in the year,” said Katonivualiku, speaking to the Fiji Times. “We don't have much time so we're trying our best to get everything sorted before June.”

“This will be a good build up tour for the junior players,” he added. “We want to start focusing on the Pacific Games and I believe this is going to be a good exposure for the younger players.”

This is the eighth SWATCH FIVB 2010 Youth World Championships, and the first to take place in Portugal.

In last year’s competition Sergiy Popov and Valeriy Samoday from Ukraine walked away with the gold medal in the men’s competition, beating Russian pairing Ruslan Bykanov and Andrey Bolgov 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) in the final, whilst German duo Christine Aulenbrock and Victoria Bieneck defeated Irina Chaika and Ekaterina Karapischenko 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) in Alanya, Turkey, the hosts of this year’s SWATCH FIVB Junior World Championships.
