LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, As tradition would have it, the month of May crowns Corbeil-Essonnes (FRA) international capital of Rhythmic Gymnastics for one full weekend. 2009 is no different; and the discipline’s influence waxes strong this time of the year just south of Paris.
For Rhythmic elite gymnasts, the 35th International Tournament at Corbeil is the final stopover on their way to the European Championships in Baku (AZE), set for May 14 – 17. Thirty-four countries are registered for the event, notably Russia with Marina Shpekht, Belarus, Bulgaria and Israel. Also in the running are gymnasts from Brazil, Venezuela, Australia, Korea, Canada and the People’s Republic of China. An out-and-out show! Coached by Bulgarian Adriana Dunavska, France will be premiering its new Group in an out of competition presentation.
Rhythmic fans everywhere are excited about the 2009 edition of the Corbeil Tournament, which should give them a pretty good idea of how the hierarchy is going to look for this cycle.
