In the second day of competition at the 3rd FINA Synchronised Swimming World Trophy Canada placed fifth in the team event.
The Trophy marked the first international appearance for Canada’s team which features eight new faces of the 12 members competing in Madrid, Spain.
Of the eight swimmers in today’s event only three, Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon, Tracy Little and Elise Marcotte, had swum at the Olympic Games. The remaining five, Chloe Isaac, Alison McKenny (Olympic team alternate), Jo Annie Fortin, Valerie Welsh and Karine Thomas were all making their debut with National AA Team.
The Canadian team performed its routine under the theme of the Chinese Horoscope, which they had performed at the Beijing Olympics, which delighted the Spanish spectators.
Canada picked up a final score of 95.334 and is ranked fifth overall in the competition with the final event, the combo, taking place Sunday.
Spain continues to dominate the event picking up its second first-place finish with a score of 99.666. The Chinese finished second with 98.000 while the Russian’s round out the top three with a score of 97.000. Japan was fourth with a final score of 96.000.
Teams competing at the Trophy include Canada, Russia, Spain, Japan, China, Egypt, Great Britain and Italy.
The FINA trophy will be streamed live at the FINA website at www.fina.org. The schedule is as follows: Dec 7 - 11:00 am ET - 1:00 pm ET
