Fiat Netball Superleague-Dragons blast past Team North
Anyone who working on the assumption that Celtic Dragons are simply in the FIAT Netball Superleague to make up the numbers, might want to take a look at the figures from their Round 6 match with Team Northumbria.
Final Score TN 24 CD 60.
It’s the second win of the season for this fast improving side, who in one hour, turned their goal difference from a minus to a rather healthy plus, hoiking themselves up to fifth in the league table at the same time.
The Team Northumbria management are very much at the beginning of a new push in their Superleague development, with young and inexperienced players filling key positions on court. It’s a position that Dragons know, having been in similar circumstances just a couple of seasons ago and look how nicely they’re coming along.
Of course their “Spice Girl” helps. Grenada’s most influential netballing export Lottysha Cato is proving an inspiration to her team, and a daunting barrier to the Superleague’s defensive sides. Post- match conversations have a familiar ring when teams have played the Dragons; “it’s really hard to mark their 6ft 6 shooter,”
That argument holds no sway with Melissa Hyndman, the head coach: “I may have a giant, but you still have to beat all my players.”
On the long journey home from Newcastle, the boss was in a very cheerful mood. “We were too good today. I played the full bench, the full team and we were too good plain and simple.
“Steph Williams was magnificient, Brooke our new signing (read more on Brooke Williams [here](really worked well with Amanda Trounce, but I was happy with it all.”
The Dragon’s coach admitted to getting fired up by reported comments from other coaches about how good the Dragons really are, and is promising that this is just the beginning for the welsh side.
The victory margin was impressive but it didn’t have to be that wide, again Northumbria’s shooters largely under-performed, 57% for the team is not enough at this standard and it can prove divisive in some squads when hard won turnover ball is not converted.
