Fencing Academy of Philadelphia athlete Maia Mei Weintraub was named to the American 2022 Senior World Team.

Weintraub and Women’s Foil teammates Lee Kiefer, Jackie Dubrovich, and Zander Rhodes together will represent Team USA at the 2022 Pan American Senior Championships in Paraguay and the 2022 World Fencing Championships in Egypt. Because of the Tokyo Olympics and the pandemic, Senior Worlds have not been held since 2019.

Earlier this year Weintraub won Junior Team Women's Foil with her American teammates; coached by Maître d'Armes Mark L. Masters, Weintraub anchored the team. Maia and her teammates earned gold medals from Junior & Cadet Worlds.

Weintraub, a lifelong Philadelphian and student of the Fencing Academy of Philadelphia since the age of 9, is a Princeton University undergrad. This spring Maia won the foil title in her NCAA Championships debut; previously, Maia was an alternate member of Team USA in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In 2021 as part of the Team USA women’s foil junior team, Weintraub won silver at the Junior/Cadet Worlds Championship.

Established in 1989, Fencing Academy of Philadelphia is the leading fencing club in the Delaware Valley, known throughout the international fencing community for its world-class coaching, athletes, and sportsmanship. In addition to nurturing a passionate team of fencers and teaching coaches, Maître d’Armes Mark Masters and Program Director Coach Lara Masters have developed world champions in foil, épée and saber and in cadet, junior, senior, and veteran class. Maia’s Junior Team Women's Foil gold made her the fourth Masters-taught world champion.
