Felix third in athlete of the month

US Track and Field

Thanks to brilliant performances at the recent U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, Allyson Felix finished third in the women’s voting for the month of June. The USOC made the announcement Wednesday.

Pulling away from one of the best American 200m fields ever assembled, Felix took down the 24-year-old Olympic Trials record of 21.77 set by Florence Griffith-Joyner. Felix, who has won three World Outdoor titles in the event and a pair of Olympic silver medals, ran the fourth-fastest time in American history. Her win at the Trials came by .42 seconds over Carmelita Jeter, who ran a lifetime best of 22.11. The margin of victory was the largest in the electronic-timing era at the Olympic Trials.

The efforts byFelix also helped her to secure the 2012 Visa Championship Series outdoor titles and a $25,000 check. she now turns her attention to the London Olympic Games Felix will compete in both the 100m and 200m.
