The previous bad weather conditions won’t stop Fausto Coppi Marathon.
The competition will run off as it was scheduled next 29 June 2008.
The tracks have been changed and prepared to guarantee the security conditions for all the athletes.
Last 27 days have been conditioned by the bad weather. A lot of damages have been reported. Cuneo, where the Fausto Coppi Marathon and Mediofondo will run off next 29 June, has had a lot of problems caused by the weather.
The 21st edition of the international cycling competition will run off as usual next 29 June in Cuneo.
“We have focused our attention and efforts to the security of all the athletes. Some locations are no available yet and we have changed the tracks considering first of all the respect of security” Emma Mana said answering to some athletes’ critics ”the entertainment is not our most important goal, your safety is”.
The Organization has also described the new designed tracks “they have a lot of difficulties, they are more difficult than the previous ones. The slope in some passages is 21%. I’d like not to change the tracks but rain and snow created a lot of problems in Cuneo. I hope all the athletes could join us in order to live a funny and sporty day”.
Looking at the analysis of the tracks, there are a lot of difficult passages like as the 18,3 km long Colle del Sampeyre, (maximum slope attested around 13,4 % and a gradient of the road of 1384 meters. 4th level of difficulty).
