FastNet Diamonds just miss medals in World Netball Series
The FastNet Diamonds have just missed a medal at the World Netball Championships in Liverpool this weekend, falling short by one goal in both finals matches.Finishing third after the round robin part of the competition, the Australians were in the box seat to finish on the podium for the competition.
However, a near full strength England side, coming off a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, were too strong for the young Australians in their semi-final with the home favourites just getting over the line for a 26-25 win.
The FastNet Diamonds then faced Jamaica in the bronze medal play-off; despite a gallant fight back the Australians could not take the lead with the Jamaicans running out bronze medalists with a 30-29 win. NSW Swifts centre court and 2009 AIS graduate Ashleigh Brazill was named FastNet Diamonds player of the series with coach Norma Plummer describing the agile up-and-comer as the “stand-out of the series.”
The FastNet Diamonds are now on route back to Australia to rejoin their ANZ Championship teams’ preseason training or their state and AIS commitments.
