Eurostar Bids Adieu To French and Belgian Paralympic Teams

The French and Belgian Paralympic teams will enjoy one last celebration today as they depart from London by Eurostar, the Official International Rail Service Provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Inspired by the overwhelming support for the Paralympic Games that have made them the most popular and successful yet, the assembled athletes will be invited to leave inspirational messages to the future generation of Paralympians.

Echoing the celebratory spirit of the Paralympic Games themselves, the departing French and Belgian Paralympians will be able to enjoy a new cocktail, Gold Rush, exclusively created for them by London mixologist David Boyd. The specially prepared beverages will be served on the Eurostar platform to the jubilant athletes to enjoy before departing on their homeward journeys. Completing the scene, the platforms will be filled with music courtesy of the Royal College of Music brass band, on hand to offer the athletes one final taste of British culture and a farewell not to be forgotten.

Two Eurostar trains have undergone a series of unique modifications, which have for the first time enabled the Paralympians to travel to and from the Games together as one team. The programme of modifications has made it possible to carry up to 18 Paralympic athletes in wheelchairs as well as hundreds of other athletes, many with special travel needs.

Eurostar is the Official International Rail Service Provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, as the partner of both the French and Belgian National Paralympic Committees, Eurostar has carried the French and Belgian Paralympic teams to and from London on specially adapted trains.
