In what was an excellent performance from England, Sarah Page opened the scoring just before half time as she deflected the ball into the net from a penalty corner.
Amy Turnbull doubled England’s lead on the 45th minute after she chased down a through ball into space and with a calm finish undercut the goalkeeper who had come out to the top of the circle.
The Netherlands pulled a goal back through Juliette Hentenaar who netted from a set piece on the 48th minute.
Manager Naomi Jones said “We are immensely proud of our performance today. Our intensity and work rate was consistently high and the team stuck to the game plan well, playing some intelligent hockey along the way. We are now looking forward to tomorrow’s match against Ireland to decide our final position”.
