Essex pair qualify for Australian Spoons national final

Essex golfers Gilly Cullen and Brenda Lord have booked their place in the national final of EWGA’s Australian Spoons competition.

The pair, from Clacton-on-Sea, won the East regional final at Maylands, Essex, when they scored 38 points in the stableford foursomes.

They will represent EWGA’s East region at the national final at Thorndon Park, Essex, on Friday, 16 September. They will be the overnight guests of EWGA and will take on pairs from the other five regions as they bid to win a pair of silver spoons, originally given by the Australian Ladies’ Golf Union.

The Australian Spoons is a stableford foursomes competition for players with handicaps of 21 and over. The pair who return the best score at each club are eligible for one of six regional finals.

The East region covers Bedfordshire, Cambs & Hunts, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
