MADRID (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women) - While the attention of the world is on the 2008 Beijing Basketball Test Event, Spain coach Evaristo Perez is looking ahead to his team’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament games in Madrid.
The Spanish, silver medal winners at last year’s EuroBasket Women in Chieti, will face arguably the weakest team in the competition, FIJI, in their opening game on June 9.
Most pundits believe Spain are the nearest thing to a certainty when it comes to grabbing one of the five places still up for grabs at the qualifying tournament.
But Perez warned: "It´s going to be a challenge for Spain as it would assure us a place in our second Olympic Games, something which is not easy for a national women´s team like ours."
The Spanish women will hold their preparation stage in San Fernando, Cadiz.
