CADIZ (FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women) – EuroBasket Women 2007 MVP Amaya Valdemoro hasn’t wasted any time making headlines ahead of Spain hosting the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Madrid.
Spain’s women will take on Brazil and Fiji in group play at the June event before taking on Cuba, Belarus or Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals.
Valdemoro, 31, recently completed her third season in Russia with CSKA Moscow and immediately upon her return to Spain signed a contract with her former club Ros Casares.
“It is a special moment for me to be able to return to Valencia, which I consider to be my home,” Valdemoro said.
“I have spent three wonderful years in Russia. I went there with the aim of winning the EuroLeague Women and did not, but won other titles instead.
“As a player with ambition, I return home to a team that will compete for titles next season.”
Valdemoro has joined up with Evaristo Perez’s women’s national team in Cadiz.
