VUKOVAR (EuroBasket Women/FIBA World Championship for Women) - The future is very bright for Spanish women's basketball.
On Sunday night in Croatia, where the U18 European Championship for Women was staged, the Spaniards defeated France, 60-46. in the Final.
The result not only capped an unbeaten mark for Spain in the tournament, it also completed an unbeaten run for all the country's women's teams in European competition this summer.
Spanish Basketball Federation President Jose Luis Saez tweeted after the 14-point victory over the French on Sunday: "Increíble!!!!! Campeonas de Europa #U18F .....cuarta medalla de oro..CAMPEONAS en todas las categorías europeas femenina.. #SomosEquipo (Incredible!!!! Champions of Europe Under-18 women...fourth gold medal. Champions in all of the European women categories.."
Spain's seniors, coached by Lucas Mondelo and led by tournament MVP Sancho Lyttle and Alba Torrens, went undefeated en route to the title at the EuroBasket Women in June, beating hosts France 70-69 in the Final.
They will be fierce competitors at the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women in Turkey.
Next came Spain's unbeaten title run in Samsun, Turkey, at the U20 European Championship for Women where Astou Ndour was named MVP of the tournament.
At the beginning of August, Spain rolled to victory after victory in Bulgaria at the U16 European Championship for Women and finished top of the podium after a 54-49 triumph over the Czech Republic.
Spain's Angela Salvadores was the MVP of that event.
On Sunday, the Spaniards put an exclamation mark on their summer in Europe with the terrific showing against France.
