Englands Hockey League takes on new Structure

With new beginnings, comes new excitement. The England Hockey League enters its third season sponsored by Slazenger, and takes on its new structure, elected during the consultation in 2006-07. This structure sees the Premier Division’s – which remain unchanged – now underpinned by three regionalised Conferences, East, North and West each with ten teams.

This has significantly reduced travel distances for clubs and reduced fixture congestion. The tenth placed team in the Premier Division will be automatically relegated into one of the three Conferences, with the ninth placed team entering a play-off with the three first placed teams in the Conferences. Two from those four teams will participate in the Premier Division the following season. The tenth placed teams in each conference will be automatically relegated, leaving the three ninth placed teams to play each other over a series of weekends to fight for the one survival place. The Regional Premier Division’s will return to having their first placed team automatically promoted into the EHL Conferences.
