England Women will return to Taunton, the Home of Women’s Cricket for two NatWest Women’s one-day internationals and one NatWest Women’s International Twenty20 in the first week of September.
England are high in confidence having just won the NatWest Women’s Series against South Africa 4-0, leaving them unbeaten in a series this year. In February Charlotte Edwards led her side to an ODI series draw against Australia and then retained the Ashes in Australia. They followed that up with a 3-1 series win in New Zealand. In July they powered to a ten-wicket victory over the West Indies.
The first match (September 1, ODI) will be attended by the Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe who will see the England team play for the first time.
The second match on September 4, the third ODI of the NatWest Women’s Series against India, will be televised live on Sky Sports as will the game on September 5, the only Twenty20 between the two sides.
The NatWest International Women’s Twenty20 will be perfect preparation for both teams ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in June 2009. The group stages will be held at Taunton, the Home of Women’s Cricket from June 11 to June 16 2009.
Edwards, England captain said: “It's always nice to play at the Home of Women's Cricket - in the past it's always been a good ground for us to play at and we hope that continues in an important series against India, the team ranked second in the world, as we look to continue our unbeaten run.
"It will be great to play at Taunton ahead of next year's ICC World Twenty20. The group stages will be here at the county ground as Taunton are hosting them for us, which is fantastic. It looks set to be a great tournament and we're all extremely excited at the prospect. We’ve got a really busy year coming up, so it’s going to be tough, but we’re relishing the prospect of playing in two global tournaments.
"The ground looks fantastic with all the redevelopments that are going on. We can't wait to get down there and play in front of all the supportive Taunton crowds."
