England Women head to Chesterfield

England Women’s Cricket Team will take on South Africa in the final match of the NatWest Women’s Series and the first of three NatWest Women’s International Twenty20s at Chesterfield on August 18 and 20, 2008 respectively.

England have already wrapped up the series having taken an unassailable 3-0 lead at Shenley on August 11. They play the fourth match today (Thursday August 14) again at Shenley.

The women’s team have recently returned victorious from their overseas tour of Australia and New Zealand after retaining the Ashes and beating the White Ferns (New Zealand) 3-1. They also powered to a series win over the West Indies in July 2008 at Loughborough.

Ahead of the Twenty20 match, which is sure to produce some exciting cricket from both sides, the England Learning Disability will take on a Physical Disability Select XI in an exhibition match, starting at 10.30am. The £5 adult admission price will include both games, providing a whole day’s entertainment for all the family.

Charlotte Edwards, England’s esteemed captain will lead the side as they attempt to continue their winning form.

“We’re so excited about this summer. Playing South Africa and India is going to present a huge challenge as it’s lots of games in quick succession for us. But it will be fantastic preparation for next year which sees us compete in the ICC Women’s World Cup and the ICC Women’s World Twenty20.

“We’re travelling to some amazing grounds this summer, which makes us feel really privileged. It’s great that we can take women’s cricket right across the country and helps us generate more interest in the game and raise the profile of the sport.”
