England players challenge at Scottish U16 championship
Three players from the EWGA squad are in the top three after the first round of the Scottish U16 strokeplay championship at Strathmore.
England are also tied for the lead with Wales in the team event.
Cheshire’s Bronte Law (Bramhall) leads the way for the England squad with a level par 72, which puts her in second place, two shots behind Chloe Williams of Wales.
Norfolk’s Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer) signed off with an eagle three on the 18th to return a score of 74 and a share third place with three other players, including squad member Kyra Horlock. Kyra, from Broadstone, Dorset, also finished with a flourish when she birdied the 18th.
The other squad players are: Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak, Dorset) who shot 76, followed by Emma Harris (Peel Ladies, Isle of Man) and Olivia Winning (Rotherham, Yorkshire) who both scored 78.
Pat Smillie, England’s national junior coach, commented: “All the girls hit the ball well but most of them missed a few too many putts. We are going to have a pretty long session on the practice putting green.”
The championship is being watched closely by the GB & I selectors who are taking the opportunity to view some of the players who may be in the frame for the U16 team of six to play against Europe in June. The team will be announced on Saturday 28th May.
