This tournament will see England’s comeback into the competitive international indoor arena and the squads have spent the past two months warming up for the event. England (men) will play in a six team round robin with the top two teams at the end of the three day event winning promotion to the EuroHockey Indoor Nations Trophy. England (women) will be involved in a four team round robin which will conclude with a final on the Sunday, the winner of which will be promoted to Europe’s Trophy competition.

The last time an England squad participated in European indoor competition was in 2000 when the women’s side was relegated from the Championships – the top flight of indoor hockey. The highlight for England indoor hockey came in 1996 when the women won the gold medal after defeating Germany in the final in Glasgow.

Both squads will be aiming to secure promotion to the next level of European competition – the Trophy.

The decision to re-enter the international indoor arena was taken in April 2006 in order to give a chance for players to experience intense competition and an opportunity to hone core skills.
