ENGLAND Under-18 Girls booked their spot in the semi finals of the EuroHockey Youth Nations Cup in Holland when they beat France 2-0 at Utrecht on Friday. Two second half goals in the space of three minutes was enough to seal the win, which means England will play the Netherlands on Saturday afternoon (1530 GMT).
A nervy first half ended goalless, but the breakthrough came on 52 minutes when a defender stopped the ball on the line with her foot, and Charlotte Cox scored the resulting penalty stroke.
Two minutes later Sophie Crosley doubled England’s lead with a straight shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
“We were all very pleased with the way we looked after the ball, although at half time it was frustrating not to be ahead,” said Head Coach Martin Rogers. “There was always the chance of France countering, but fortunately after the break we imposed our passing patterns of play on them and created some scoring opportunities, and eventual broke the deadlock with the stroke.” England U18 Girls Squad
