England Women’s international to coach new London Irish girls section

England and Wasps fly-half Rae will coach the Under 15s and Under 18s teams and she is joined in the impressive coaching line-up by another England player Fran Matthews and Welsh international Nicky Evans. The assistant coaches include London Irish and Surrey’s Charlie Connor, former Ulster Ladies coach Chris McGowan and John Flynn, who is head of Youth Rugby Development at London Irish ARFC. There will also be guest coaching from England Women’s Under 20s Head Coach Giselle Mather.

“It’s unlikely that there is anyone involved with rugby anywhere in the world who has not heard of London Irish, a name which over its 109 year old history has become synonymous with good rugby football, friendliness and fun,” said London Irish’s John Flynn.

“We are delighted to launch a girls’ rugby section and we are excited by the high quality coaching and management team. They will ensure that the girls get the best opportunity to develop as individuals and team players, and above all have fun playing the game. We’ve already had considerable interest being shown within the greater Surrey area, the local community and schools though we welcome players from all areas and abilities.”

The girls’ teams are based at the Amateur and Professional clubs training and playing facilities at The Avenue, Sunbury. Training is every Wednesday from 7.00pm and Sunday mornings from 10.00am to 12.00. Matches will be played on Sunday afternoons at 1.00pm.
