Cairo, Egypt, January 9, 2011 - The African Volleyball Confederations (CAVB) granted the organization of the delayed 2010 Girls Youth African Nations Championship to Egypt on Sunday after the original organizer, Rwanda, withdrew last year. The competition, which is the last of the age category championships and a qualifying event for the 2011 FIVB Girls Youth World Championship to be held in Turkey, will be held in Cairo, Egypt from February 15 to 20, 2011. The defending champions Tunisia have already been tagged favourites to win and match their male counterparts who already qualified as winners of the 2010 Boys African Nations Championship in South Africa last September. However Egypt will be looking to use their home support to clinch the title after the country won last year's Women’s Junior African Nations Championship in Tunisia in October. Algeria will also be a threat after their long run development program, specifically in women's Volleyball, allowed them to dominate the senior African scene as they represented the continent at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, winning the 2009 African Nations Championship and finally being one of the two African countries in the 2010 Women’s World Championship in Japan. |
